You have a business that you own, and you are so excited to be selling products or services, but you are not getting any foot traffic to your site. You have a competitor that sells close to the same product as yourself, but they seem to be raking in the dough. What’s going on here? Why are they making a ton of money while you are about ready to close your doors? It’s all about the SEO. What is SEO you ask? SEO stands for search engine optimization and by using it as a way to market your business, you will have made the most profitable decision of your career.
1. Search Results
Why SEO is important boils down to the search engine results page, also known as a SERP. These results are crucial to your business. When a consumer searches an item on a search engine, such as Google, Yahoo, or Bing, they get a page back within mere seconds of what the highest ranked content is based on their search. Normally the first five websites at the top of the list are the sites that are clicked on, and ultimately they are the ones that get the consumers money. No one, consumer or producer alike, wants to dig down ten pages into the fiftieth website to find what they are looking for.
2. Marketing
Another reason why SEO is important is that of marketing. Ultimately SEO is a form of marketing using the search engine option rather than paid ads. According to Hillary Bressler, the founder and president of .Com Marketing, “A survey by Radar Research states that 75 percent of advertisers use organic search engine optimization (SEO) tactics, making it the most popular form of search engine marketing. Paid search came in second, with 71 percent of advertisers using this channel. Because of the competitiveness for some keywords, a significant number of dollars can and are being spent on paid search while SEO delivers up to 400% more traffic for significantly less.” So as you can see, while some entrepreneurs are using paid searches, they are not the best way to bump up your marketing, and they are way more expensive. SEO may take a few months to jump your website to the top, but it is definitely the route to go.
3. Financial and Return on Investment (ROI)
One of the most popular reasons why SEO is important is because of the return on investment due to higher conversion rates. According to Kelsey Libert of the Moz.com, “The companies with the highest ROI focus on blogging, organic search, and content amplification.” The return on investment of setting up and starting out with SEO do pay off. Of course, SEO marketing takes time to drive your website to the top based on the keywords and phrases you have elected to use to get traffic to your site, but once you make the leap, your revenue will be outstanding. According to Hillary Bressler, the founder and president of .Com Marketing, “Typically you can expect to pay around $1,500- $3,500 per month on a professional and legitimate SEO program. The ROI on this for a business averages between 5-11 to 1 return on investment, meaning that for every dollar you spend on SEO, you drive $5 or more in revenue back to your business.”
So when it comes down to it, these three business aspects of search results, marketing, and finance, is why SEO is important.
